Since opening our doors in 1959, Cibola General Hospital has been dedicated to meeting the healthcare needs of our region. As a critical access hospital in Grants, NM, we play an essential role in delivering care to surrounding rural communities, providing access to important medical services closer to home.
Many of our team members grew up right here in Cibola County. They understand the people we serve because they are part of this community, bringing a level of connection and compassion that shapes every patient experience.
At Cibola General Hospital, our mission is built on four guiding principles that shape every interaction and every decision we make:
These values reflect our commitment to creating a healthcare experience that is personal, accessible, and meaningful for our entire community. Let our family CARE for your family.
As a community hospital, we are also dedicated to being a leader in our community by not only providing exceptional patient care but also by being a place where our employees feel proud to work and where students can learn.
Our providers and staff bring together experience, dedication, and a shared commitment to patient-centered care. With decades of combined experience across specialties, our team works collaboratively to support your health and well-being.
From physicians and nurses to support staff and community health workers, every member of our team plays a role in creating a positive, supportive care experience. We focus on building relationships, taking time to listen, and helping patients feel confident in their care.

Our dietary services team works to provide wholesome, balanced meals that support each patient’s care plan and dietary needs. Meals are prepared according to physician orders, and a consulting registered dietitian is available on-site weekly to help ensure patients receive appropriate nutritional guidance during their hospital stay.
For patients, visitors, and staff, our cafeteria provides convenient dining options, including hot meals, snacks, and a variety of beverages, while vending machines are available throughout the hospital for added convenience.
Cibola General Hospital is proud to be a dedicated community partner committed to improving the health and well-being of the people we serve. We also participate in local health fairs, birthing classes, school outreach initiatives, and sponsorships of local athletic programs.
The Joint Commission has accredited hospitals for more than 50 years, and today it accredits approximately 4,167 general, children’s, long-term acute, psychiatric, rehabilitation, & surgical specialty hospitals, as well as 373 critical access hospitals through a separate accreditation program. Approximately 82 percent of the nation’s hospitals are currently accredited by The Joint Commission.
Joint Commission accreditation is awarded to hospitals that meet rigorous standards for quality, safety, and patient care. Accredited organizations must continuously evaluate and improve their services, clearly define the care they provide, meet Joint Commission requirements, and, when applicable, satisfy federal hospital standards established by Medicare and Medicaid.
Joint Commission accreditation demonstrates a hospital’s commitment to quality, safety, and continuous improvement. It helps strengthen patient safety programs, build community trust, improve operations and risk management, support staff development, meet regulatory requirements, and maintain Medicare certification while earning recognition from insurers and healthcare partners.
Joint Commission standards establish expectations for safe, high-quality patient care and hospital operations. Developed with input from healthcare experts and consumers, the standards cover key areas including patient safety, infection prevention, emergency preparedness, leadership, nursing, medication management, staff qualifications, patient rights, and continuous performance improvement.
To earn and maintain Joint Commission accreditation, hospitals undergo comprehensive on-site surveys conducted by experienced healthcare professionals. These unannounced evaluations assess compliance with quality and safety standards through patient care reviews, staff interviews, observations, documentation, and an in-depth examination of hospital processes focused on continuous performance improvement and patient outcomes.
The Joint Commission’s ORYX® program uses performance and outcomes data to support quality improvement and accreditation. By aligning hospital quality measures with Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) requirements, ORYX helps hospitals track care outcomes, improve patient care, and streamline data collection and reporting processes.
Joint Commission accreditation fees vary based on a hospital’s size and complexity and include annual subscription and on-site survey costs. Survey fees help cover evaluation expenses, while accreditation provides hospitals with access to resources, guidance, and tools that support quality improvement and compliance efforts.
Information about the safety and quality of accredited hospitals is available to the public at Quality Check®, www.qualitycheck.org. This comprehensive listing includes each accredited hospital’s name, address, telephone number, accreditation decision, current accreditation status, and effective date, as well as its Quality Report. Quality Reports include detailed information about a hospital’s performance and how it compares to similar hospitals.
