Thomas Whelan
Chief Executive Officer
Thomas Whelan, joined Cibola General Feb 2016 as the Chief Executive Officer.
Whelan, holds a bachelor’s of arts from Lewis University in Illinois, and a Masters in Hospital Administration from St. Louis University in Missouri. He joined St. Francis Hospital in Illinois in 1985 as the Division Director of Support Services, and soon after had the opportunity to become Vice President of Clinical Services at St. Mary’s Hospital also in Illinois. He directed daily operations of clinical services to include diagnostic, therapeutic, rehabilitation, home health and senior services.
Prior to his role with Cibola General Hospital, Whelan served as the CEO of Lodi Community Hospital for the last 17 years and President of Edwin Shaw Rehabilitation Institute and Director of the Orthopedic Service Line at Akron General Medical Center while serving as CEO in Lodi Ohio. He is a seasoned Chief Executive Officer with over 25 years of senior level experience, and has shown his success through traits of team-building, setting service excellence expectations and accountability. He successfully used collective experience to serve as team leader responsible for five successful outpatient therapy clinics throughout the greater Akron area and a chemical dependency program featuring a grant funded medically-assisted treatment clinic, a highlight of his many accomplishments while at Edwin Shaw Rehabilitation.
Whelan and his wife are excited to move close to family in the Southwest and really become a part of our community.
Jim Hermes
Chief Financial Officer
Jim Hermes is joining Cibola General Hospital (CGH) as our new Chief Financial Officer. Jim has an immense background of finance for over 30 years and is excited to join the Grants community.
Prior to his role with Cibola General Hospital, he served as the Executive Director for Strategic Healthcare Solutions in Houston, TX. He has been involved with the purchasing and selling of hospitals, medical joint ventures, and running the Finance Departments of small hospitals.
As a senior financial executive with hospital financial and operations experience, some of his achievements include business plans improvements for rural hospitals to increase revenue while creating workflow efficiencies, planned consumer pricing initiatives to make care affordable for the uninsured and high deductible insured, enhanced net revenue with clinical documentation improvements, and many more.
Join CGH in welcoming Mr. Hermes and his wife Anne to our community. His experience and leadership, combined with guidance from the Board of Trustees, will move CGH into a successful future.
