MRI
Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), is a sophisticated diagnostic technique which generates highly detailed and cross-sectional images of human anatomy using a magnetic field, radio waves, and a computer. It is highly recommended for creating sharp images of the brain, spine, thorax, vascular system, and musculoskeletal system, including areas such as the knee and shoulder. MRI is a noninvasive and safe procedure that produces no X-ray radiation. Pregnant women should consult their doctor before considering an MRI, although there are no identified side effects or after effects.
At Cibola General Hospital, the MRI unit has a high-field and high-service design, providing faster and more precise images. MRI scans may last anywhere from 15 minutes to more than an hour. The hospital offers MRI services five days a week.
CT
A CT scan, also known as Computed Tomography examination, is a type of diagnostic imaging procedure that enables medical professionals to generate cross-sectional images of bones, blood vessels, and soft tissues in the body. This advanced technology is used in a variety of diagnostic procedures, which range from detecting bleeding or blood clots in the head to evaluating organ size and shape and monitoring disease progression. By utilizing CT scan technology, physicians are able to visualize anatomic structures in a way that would not be possible with traditional radiography. With its ability to provide detailed images of the body’s internal structures, CT scan plays a crucial role in modern medicine and continues to be an essential tool in the diagnosis and treatment of various medical conditions.
Fluoroscopy
Fluoroscopy is a diagnostic imaging procedure that utilizes a special table and x-ray tube in conjunction with contrast material to visualize organs that are not visible on standard x-rays. The use of contrast media, such as barium, allows for superior imaging of the specific area of concern to the radiologist and technologist. Common exams performed using fluoroscopy include Barium Studies, Upper Gastrointestinal (GI) exams, Barium Enema, Small Bowel Series, Intravenous Pyelogram (IVP), and Cystography. These exams are all designed to provide a high level of detail and accuracy in the diagnosis and treatment of a wide range of medical conditions. Our team of medical professionals is highly skilled and experienced in performing fluoroscopy procedures, ensuring that patients receive the highest quality care.
3D Mammography
At Cibola General Hospital we team with X-ray Associates of New Mexico, headquartered in Albuquerque, to provide you with accurate and efficient diagnosis of breast disease in its earliest stages. The result is improved outcomes and better health for our patients. Many experts encourage women at the age of 40 to start getting mammograms on an annual basis.
With 3D Mammography we are able to piece together a 3 Dimensional study of the breast which gives us fine details that are more clearly visible because they are no longer hidden by the tissue above and below unlike in conventional 2D mammography. Very low X-ray energy is used during the screening examination so your radiation exposure is below the FDA guidelines.
A 3D mammography provides better detection and diagnostic capabilities, and allows physicians to generate images in seconds. The Genius™ 3D Mammography™ exam reduces callbacks by up to 40% compared to 2D alone. In addition, only the Genius 3D Mammography™ exam is proven to find 20-65% more invasive breast cancers compared to 2D alone, an average increase of 41.3%.
The entire screening mammography procedure, including preparation and the image processing, usually takes 20 to 30 minutes. Actual exposure time is very short. The images of your screening are collected by a computer to create a 3D image of your breast. Afterwards, the images are sent to XRANM’s award winning team of Radiologists with expertise in Breast Imaging and Intervention.
To schedule your 3D screening mammography, please contact our radiology department Monday through Friday 8am – 5PM at 505.287.5250.
Ultrasound
Ultrasound imaging, commonly known as sonography, is a non-invasive diagnostic tool that utilizes sound waves to generate images of body organs, vessels, and tissues. It has a wide range of applications in the medical field, including evaluating blood flow within the heart, detecting breast cysts or gallstones, examining the prostate, uterus, liver, kidneys, pancreas, colon, and urinary bladder, and assessing the health of unborn babies.
During an ultrasound examination, inaudible sound waves are used to produce “echoes” that bounce off of organs and tissues, which are then visualized on a computer screen. This imaging modality is both safe and effective for patients.
At Cibola General Hospital, we provide general ultrasound services daily, as well as vascular ultrasound and echocardiography two days per week. Our team of experienced professionals is dedicated to delivering quality care and accurate diagnosis to help our patients make informed decisions about their health.
