There are various payment options for patients that do not have insurance. The first question that CGH staff should be asking is do you want assistance applying for any state funded benefit plans that you may qualify for. We have staff trained to work with patients regarding the various plans or payment options that are available. Please ask to speak to one of our financial counselors prior to receiving services, if possible.
Your Financial Responsibilities
Co-insurance and co-payments are due the day of service. You may also be responsible for your deductible, if not yet met. Our staff provides an estimation of your costs for the services to be provided, to base your payment on. This is just an estimate – you are responsible to pay the balance on your bill after the time of service if it is higher than the estimate. If you overpaid, we will provide you with a refund.
If you are unsure of your financial responsibility, please consult your health insurance policy. Our office staff submits patient bills to the appropriate insurance companies and takes every step possible to expedite the claim. CGH accepts cash, checks, debit and credit cards for payment. If you are unable to pay on the day of your appointment, or earlier if requested, we can reschedule your appointment.
For insured patients: Your deductible, copayment and/or co-insurance, if applicable, are due at the time of service. A deductible is the amount you must pay before your benefit plan starts paying any portion of your medical services. After your deductible is met, you may have to pay a copayment (a set dollar amount) or co-insurance (a percentage of the cost) for your medical care. Some plans do not require a deductible. Please refer to your benefit plan documents for the amounts that you must pay for different services. If you are scheduled for a non-emergency medical procedure or surgery, we may contact you before your appointment to provide you an estimate of your cost and to collect your copayment, deductible, and/or co-insurance.
For uninsured patients: For non-emergency situations, you will be asked for payment in full. We will provide you an estimate of the cost so you are able to make an informed decision as to whether or not you would like to proceed with the requested services.
Financial Assistance: Financial assistance and counselors are available to our patients who are uninsured or underinsured, and have difficulty paying for care. CGH offers payment options, including payment plans for those who qualify and financial assistance. Some hospital services – radiology, surgery, cardiopulmonary, laboratory, emergency care – may include bills from physicians who are not employed by the hospital and who charge separately for their services.
