Robin Raquel Rodriguez, MD, MBA

Dr. Robin Rodriguez has felt called to medicine from a young age, inspired by her small-town upbringing in Texas where access to care was limited. Guided by her strong faith and passion for serving others, she pursued family medicine to provide full-spectrum care that supports patients and their families across generations. Drawn to the close-knit community and welcoming spirit of Cibola County, she chose Cibola General Hospital as a place where she could make meaningful connections while delivering compassionate, whole-person care. Outside of medicine, Dr. Rodriguez enjoys spending time with her family, caring for her pets, hiking, and sharing her love for all things Disney.

Chanda Duncan, PA

Orthopedics

Chanda Duncan, a New Mexico native, was inspired to pursue healthcare by the challenges rural communities face in accessing medical services. Drawn to Cibola General Hospital’s mission of serving small towns and surrounding reservations, she is dedicated to making patients feel heard and understood, especially those traveling long distances for care. Chanda values the welcoming environment at Cibola and is proud to now serve as part of its “small but mighty” team. Outside of medicine, she enjoys sports, ranch life with horses and livestock, and speaks Navajo, which allows her to connect more closely with patients.

Dr. Jay Binder’s path into medicine was shaped his love of science and people, his father’s work ethic, his mother’s love for sports and service, and his Christian beliefs. He got his MD/MPH from Tulane and became a specialist in orthopedics and sports medicine. He has built a career that blends science, healing, and athletic performance, serving in hospital leadership roles, private practice, and as a National Team Physician for USA Gymnastics for 25 years,. He is now the Vice President of the International Federation of Gymnastics Medical Commission, covering and supporting world-class and Olympic athletes. Drawn to our hometown by his own native roots (Chitimacha of LA), Dr. Binder values the hospital’s commitment to patient-centered care, seeing healthcare as both a profession and a calling. He finds the greatest reward in helping patients grow into the best versions of themselves, and outside of medicine enjoys traveling, skiing, playing golf, spending time with family and friends, and volunteering/ministering to others.

Elise is a dedicated Licensed Social Worker, passionate about helping others and making a positive impact. Luisa Valverde, PA-C

Luisa Valverde’s dream of helping others began in her childhood, inspired by the sight of medical tents in her hometown during a time of conflict. After working several years as a surgical medical assistant, she pursued her passion as an advanced practice provider, graduating from the UNM PA program in 2022. During PA school, Luisa had a 3-month rotation at Cibola General Hospital, in which she connected with the community and appreciated the opportunity to serve our population. Fluent in Spanish and with experience in urgent care, Luisa is dedicated to making a difference in her role at the acute care clinic. In her free time, she enjoys outdoor adventures like hiking, skiing, and paddleboarding, as well as baking sourdough and spending time with her family.

Lilian Ameh, MD, MPH

Family Medicine/Obstetrics

Dr. Ameh’s lifelong passion for helping others and her strong interest in science and the human body led her to pursue a career in family medicine and obstetrics. She enjoys the opportunity to provide comprehensive care to families, being a central figure in their healthcare journey. Originally from Nigeria, Dr. Ameh is also committed to international medicine, planning to travel annually to provide care in underserved countries. At Cibola General Hospital, she appreciates the collegial, supportive environment that allows her to grow in her career. Outside of medicine, Dr. Ameh loves reading, traveling, exploring diverse cultural cuisines, and learning about history.

Rachael A. Clark, MD

General Surgery

Dr. Clark’s passion for medicine was sparked by her mother’s career in patient billing, which exposed her to the medical field from a young age. Her interest deepened when her mother became ill during her college years, inspiring her to make a tangible difference in people’s lives through general surgery. Dr. Clark chose to practice at Cibola General Hospital due to the strong sense of community and the opportunity to serve where providers are needed most. She finds fulfillment in guiding patients through their healthcare journeys, building meaningful relationships, and witnessing their recovery. Outside of work, Dr. Clark enjoys baking, especially gluten-free recipes, painting, and tackling home improvement projects.

Peter Bergquist, DO

Dr. Bergquist’s journey into medicine began after transitioning from a career as a mechanical engineer to pursue a more impactful role in healthcare. Inspired by his sister’s work as a pediatrician and his own passion for health and wellness, he found orthopedic surgery to be the perfect fit. Specializing in improving patients’ quality of life through procedures like joint replacements and tendon repairs, Dr. Bergquist has enjoyed nearly 30 years of making a difference. Drawn to the community-focused environment at Cibola General Hospital, he values the personal connections and patient-centered culture. In his free time, he loves downhill skiing, mountain biking, and hiking, with skiing being a lifelong passion since childhood trips to Taos, New Mexico.

Fazal Khan, MD

Dr. Khan’s interest in medicine began as a child when his family medicine doctor’s care and attention sparked his curiosity about the human body and anatomy. This early fascination led him to pursue a career in family medicine, where he enjoys the opportunity to care for entire families and address the needs of the whole person. Dr. Khan values the strong connections he can build in a small city like Grants, allowing him to become deeply involved in both his patients’ lives and the community. With over 20 years of experience, Dr. Khan finds great satisfaction in seeing his patients recover and express their appreciation for his compassionate care. Outside of work, he loves traveling, following sports—especially baseball and the NBA Finals—and spending quality time with his family.
